A new series of events combining world-class classical music with the best elements of a relaxed night out has been launched in London.
The aim of the events, which go by the name of Cafe Muse, is to provide a space for great classical music to be modern, relevant and engaging
for people who would not normally attend a concert, especially those of
younger generations. They will take place across some of London's coolest bars, cafes and brasseries, all specially chosen for their relaxing atmosphere and warm hospitality.
The concept of bridging the gap between platform and concert hall is something that Cordelia Williams (pictured right), producer and director of Cafe Muse, has always been passionate about. Cordelia has been hailed as 'one of the outstanding pianists of her generation', and has gone from strength to strength with concert appearances around the world since being named BBC Young Musician of the Year 2006. Cordelia is also a recipient of a Musicians Benevolent Fund's Postgraduate Performance Award.
Cafe Muse is inspired by the old cafes and salons of Paris and Vienna, which were centres for literary, philosophical and artistic debate as well as lively social gatherings. It is this heady atmosphere that they want to recreate, where musicians interact with the audience, talking about what they play, sharing the influences on the music and discussing the issues of interpretation they face while studying it.
The first event held in November was a big success, accomplishing their goal of combining the elements of a great evening out - plentiful drinks, good food, conversation with friends - with superb classical music.
The next Cafe Muse event will be held on Sunday 19 December at the Commander Porterhouse & Oyster Bar in Notting Hill, where Cordelia Williams will be performing music by Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Chopin. This promises to be a wonderful evening of drinks and food, with some beautiful piano music taking place in an intimate setting. Entry is free with a table booking.

Cordelia will be holding a Cafe Muse event next year in aid of the Fund’s 90 Events for 90 Years celebration, so watch this space. More details coming soon!
