Empirical, previous recipients of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, nominated for a MOBO

Posted on 5 October, 2010

British jazz group Empirical, who scooped the 2007 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, have just been nominated for a MOBO in the 2010 category for Best Jazz Act.

This nomination follows a successful few years for the young band, whose smart post-bop style has garnered critical acclaim and wowed crowds on both sides of the Atlantic.  In 2007 they won the innaugural EBU/European Jazz Competition, then went on to claim the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, of which previous winners include 2009 Mercury Award nominees Led Bib.  With help from the funding secured by winning the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund, Empirical were able to complete their latest album Out 'n' In.  The record has received glowing reviews and has established the band as a major force on the British jazz scene.

The MOBO awards will be held on the 20th October 2010, and you can view the nominees in the Best Jazz Act category and vote for Empirical by visiting the MOBO website.
