Guy Johnston celebrates his 30th birthday with a charity concert – Thursday 2nd June

Guy Johnston

Guy Johnston is one of the most celebrated cellists of his generation. His 30th birthday is the perfect opportunity to showcase the talent that has critics raving. Here he celebrates with his closest friends, family and colleagues by performing a special programme in order to raise funds for two causes close to Guy’s heart.

The programme includes Mark Anthony Turnage; a friend of Guy’s who has composed the piece Goodbye 20s, Hello 30s. The Aronowitz Ensemble, of which Guy (photo right, credit Hanya Chlala) was a founding member, will play Strauss’ Capriccio and Brahm’s piano quartet and the climax of the evening will be a performance of Beethoven’s celebratory triple concerto.

Renowned soloists Jack Liebeck and Melvyn Tan join Guy with an orchestra of Guy's friends and members of the Haydn Chamber Orchestra, led by Magnus Johnston and conducted by Stephen Cleobury.

The artists performing are donating their time in aid of Eyes Alight, a new campaign by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust and the Musicians Benevolent Fund, who supported Guy during his studies in the USA at a critical point in his career.

The concert is taking place at 7:30pm on Thursday 2 June at St John’s, Smith Square. For more information please visit the Events Calendar.
