Voices Now is a celebration of all things singing, with some of the best choirs in the world coming together to perform for the first time in one weekend at London’s famous Roundhouse.
Voices Now is a huge celebration of ensemble singing on a scale and ambition not seen before. The four day choral take over of the Roundhouse on 24-27 March 2011
features some internationally renowned choirs, over 1000 amateur
singers, performances, workshops, talks and specially commissioned new
works, with concerts broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
This festival comes at an exciting time for singing in this country. The explosion of interest in choirs in the UK in recent years means
that more people than ever before are enjoying the benefits of singing.
The UK also has a centuries old singing tradition, with some of the
finest professional choirs in the world, and a new generation of
singers who are taking vocal groups in new and invigorating directions.
Further afield, not least in the Baltic region, vocal traditions are
equally strong.
Some of the highlights include an inspiring mix of East meets West choral music, with the BBC Singers and the Latvian Radio Choir coming together for a new commission from Gabriel Jackson, with the concert broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. There will be a rare chance to hear the London Symphony Chorus, with over one hundred voices, perform unaccompanied with music by Jonathan Dove and Morten Lauridsen. Also performing are The Magnets, with their jaw-dropping close harmonies and beatboxing, as well as the experimental virtuosity and contemporary classical styles of female vocal trio Juice.
