Stories of our work
Adam Taylor

Without the hardwork and generosity of our supporters, we would be unable to continue to provide assistance to musicians in need.  One such supporter is Adam Taylor, a jazz-musician from Chichester, who has raised over £2,500 for the Musicians Benevolent Fund since 2007.

An amateur saxophonist and clarinettist for many years, pressing commitments had meant that Adam had consigned his instruments to the loft. However, in 2007 Adam enrolled on a jazz course at Chichester College and started playing with other like minded enthusiasts. Adam soon formed ChiJazz with fellow musicians Matt Tween on bass, Noel Jay on keyboard and Dave Mumby on guitar.

“ I am glad to give something in return for the pleasure musicians have given me. It is great fun raising money in this way; I’d certainly recommend it to other supporters of the Musicians Benevolent Fund.”

The band was keen to start performing and one evening dropped in to their local Pizza Express to leave their details. Some months later, they were surprised to receive an invitation to perform. Adam’s job didn’t allow earnings from other sources so, instead of a fee, he asked for donations to be made to the Musicians Benevolent Fund. The performance was well received and Adam and his friends were given a series of engagements, which led to bookings elsewhere and more donations towards the work of the Fund.
