Michael enjoyed music from a young age, starting in the choir of Salisbury Cathedral in 1954 aged 7. He last worked as a double bass player just over six years ago recording Hans Zimmer film sessions at Air Lyndhurst.
Through the Jacqueline du Pré Special Fund Michael has been supported in a variety of ways. He has a mobility car and an electric wheel chair adjusted to his needs. He is also offered help with a range of household bills including heating, telephone, television licence and insurance. In addition, Michael has enjoyed holidays with other musicians with disabilities at a specially adapted hotel, organised by the Fund.
Michael has regular visits from a Visitor during which they discuss Michael’s care needs and other ways we might be able to help. The visits are a vital way of supporting beneficiaries.
“ Although it is now a few years since I last walked and over six years since I last was able to play the double bass, I live a fulfilling and independent life in my own flat. I now have the time to explore my new interests.”
Nowadays, Michael enjoys studying composition and has been arranging nursery rhymes for his first grandchild. He continues with his interest in music and dyslexia, and is a member on the British Dyslexia Association Committee.
