Stories of our work
Glen and Kay Mason

We help both retired musicians and their dependants, providing advice, emotional support and financial assistance.

Singer-songwriter Glen Mason and his wife, Kay, have been receiving help for many years. They approached us when Glen suffered a serious stroke and heart attack caused by financial stress.

"I am so grateful for all you have done for Glen and myself."

More for dependants »

Glen Mason, born Tommy Lenon, is well-known throughout the music industry in the UK, as well as other parts of the world. His entertainment and music career spans more than forty years. In the middle 1950’s and early 60’s, he was hardly off our TV screens and co-presented a show called Saturday Night Spectacular. At the time he was recording with Polydor, EMI records and Philips. Other interesting facts are that he was discovered by Beatles manager George Martin and that Sean Connery was best man at his wedding and is godfather to his two sons.

After retiring from the music business Glen and Kay experienced financial hardship. We were there to help. We supported them when they were forced to move from their family home and for many years we have helped them with a range of household bills. In addition, they have both enjoyed holidays with other musicians and their dependants, organised by the Fund.

“ I am so grateful for all you have done for Glen and myself. I really appreciate the visits and I know Glen does too. The holidays have been great and I have made some very close friends.”

Nowadays Glen resides in a nursing home in Surbiton, due to his failing health and dementia, and Kay lives nearby and visits him regularly. Both Glen and Kay continue to have our support in a variety of ways and also enjoy regular visits from one of our visitors. The visits are a vital way of supporting both beneficiaries. Kay still enjoys our holidays and went to Marbella last year.

  • A CD of Glen’s hits was recently re-released. We attended the CD Launch in Kingston and met, amongst others, his son Andy and family and good friend, singer/actor Kenny Lynch.
