The Songwriting Awards seek to promote new talent through encouraging outstanding young songwriters
Who we can help
To apply you need to be a songwriter studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate popular/commercial music course in the UK and be nominated by your Head of course. Shortlisted candidates are selected to perform in front of high profile panel at a showcase in London.
The winner of the 2009 Songwriting Award is young London songwriter Sherika Sherrard. She received £5,000 for a new guitar and songwriting equipment.

History of the Songwriting Awards
The Songwriting Awards are now in their seventh year and have established a high profile in the sector. Acclaimed songwriter Guy Chambers and Joan Armatrading have chaired panels, working with other high profile songwriters including Cathy Dennis, Nik Kershaw, Eg White, Alison Clarkson (Betty Boo) and Dan Gillespie-Sells. Previous winners include The Wombats, Fables, Katie Doherty and Alex Lipinski.
