Living Body is the project of Leeds-based Chicagoan ex-pat multi-instrumentalist Jeff T. Smith (formerly, Juffage), featuring longtime collaborators Katie Harkin (Sky Larkin, Sleater-Kinney, Courtney Barnet, Wild Beasts) and Tom Evans (Vessels).
Their debut album “Body Is Working” was released in December 2016 to critical acclaim from Drowned In Sound, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, The Line of Best Fit, The Skinny, Impose, Exclaim!, For the Rabbits and God Is In The TV, with airplay on BBC 6 Music, Radio 3, Amazing Radio and others.
With a live ensemble augmented by Alice Rowan (Mayshe-Mayshe) and Sarah Statham (Crake, Fig By Four, Esper Scout), the group has toured extensively throughout the UK, EU and North America, including performances at SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Tramlines, Sŵn, ArcTanGent, Long Division, and Deer Shed Festival.
In December 2017, the band released a charity 7” version of Mariah Carey’s classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in aid of the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center in Vancouver (home to North American label, Kingfisher Bluez). In 2019, they released a single version of their live favourite, “C.R.E.A.M”, and performed a 15-date UK tour as an expanded 5-piece, debuting 6 new unreleased songs with current live lineup Jeff T. Smith (vocals/guitar), Alice Rowan (vocals/keys/guitar/bass), Jack Burgess-Hunt (bass/guitar), Sarah Statham (drums) and James Yates (drums).
Expanding on the need for music to bring joy into the lives of others and Smith’s fascination with the contortion of the pop song into a uniquely imaginative and immediate form, Living Body aims to exist in a world of skin and information overload in 2019.
