Roger Fauske heads off on a trek across frozen Norway

Best to get it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak: "My sanity has often been called into question, sometimes on a daily basis," said the intrepid Anglo-Norwegian columnist, "but on this occasion it's not so much madness as returning to my Norse roots, if only for a brief period, and unfortunately in this day and age of political correctness, the age old traditions of my ancestors are frowned upon - raping, pillaging and general berserking.

The trek will take three days and starts from Finse, which sits at 1,222 metres above sea level before concluding in the ski resort of Geilo all in aid of Help Musicians UK.

Would you like to raise money for musicians? Find out how

There is a donation page already set up and it is being done through Virgin Giving so you know the donations/ sponsorships go where they are supposed to. Visit it here.

During the trek, there will be a link from that page which will track my progress via GPS so you can rest assured I won't be sat in the nearest bar.

It all takes place between March 19th and 22nd so you have plenty of time to pledge your donations... you wouldn't want to annoy Odin or Thor would you?
