At the start of 2017, HMUK grant-funded the Music Business School to become a Community Interest Company (CIC) and be able to sustainably run its ‘Managing a Music Business Enterprise’ (MMBE) diploma course.
Established in 2010 by industry veteran Steve Melhuish, Music Business School offers a 13-week course, one day a week, developed for those wanting to get to grips with commercial music business, including managers, promoters, labels, artists, career changers, and more.
Operating from emerging creative hub Tileyard Studios, students are immediately immersed in a professional environment and in contact with the roster of impressively high calibre speakers brought in to help give a cohesive overview of the industry.
The 13-week course aims to provide essential industry knowledge and culminates in a recognised qualification. Modules include:
• Introduction to the Music Business
• Setting up and running a Record Label
• Music Publishing and Sync
• Artist Management
• Touring, Marketing & Technical Production
• PR & Radio
• Working with Producers
• Digital Marketing
• Financing your career
