Help Musicians UK and PledgeMusic have announced 5 new acts that will benefit from the Emerging Artists Fund.
Chosen by a panel of industry experts, all the acts will launch their own PledgeMusic campaign and if successful, will receive additional funding from Help Musicians UK.
150 applications were received in this second round of the scheme, and the selection panel included The Guardian’s Paul Lester, DJ Nihal (BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 5 Live), Claire Maxwell (Raw Power Management), producer Danton Supple (Definition Arts), artist/songwriter Chris Sheehan (Karousel Music) and the Association of Independent Music’s Emmy Buckingham.
The winning artists are:
- Florence Black
- The Lottery Winners
- Matthew and Me
- Ryan Vail
Launched in May, the scheme will support at least 24 acts over the next year, with £50,000 of funding available in total. The fund is open to all music genres and is charged with helping emerging artists who aren’t currently receiving significant financial backing from third party sources (label, publishing etc.), but clearly at or nearing a career ‘tipping point’ with growing media interest, plenty of live experience and an engaged fan-base.
All of the artists selected at the first round have launched their PledgeMusic campaigns, with several already exceeding their target.
Paul Barton PledgeMusic UK MD says:
“It has been very pleasing that The Emerging Artists programme continues to grow, with a significant increase in applications this time round. Previous recipients have all demonstrated the faith of the panel judges with successful PledgeMusic campaigns and in one or two cases, some early Radio 1 exposure and record label/management interest. I have similarly high ambitions for our new selection of artists coming out of this second round.”
Tim Foxon, Help Musicians UK’s Talent Programme Manager says:
"The Emerging Artists Fund was set up to support exciting up-and-coming talent around the UK and we’re thrilled to see artists applying from far and wide. With several of those who were successful at the first round already exceeding their campaign targets, it will be great to see how the combined support of PledgeMusic, the artists’ fans and Help Musicians UK enables them to reach the next level in their careers."
