New year, new Talent Programme successes

Just before the Christmas break the Help Musicians UK Talent Programme Team were joined by an expert panel to choose the latest emerging artists to benefit from a Career Development Bursary. The selection panel included Help Musicians UK Deputy Chair Ronald Corp OBE, London-based artist-curator Will Dutta, and répétiteur, opera coach and pianist, Susanna Stranders. With such a strong calibre of applicants, high praise was given from members of the selection panel.

Will Dutta said: "The Career Development Bursary provides an all too rare opportunity for an artist to reconsider his or her creative practice with the financial pressures removed. Those awarded showed not just musical ability but a critical awareness and drive that was impressive."

Susanna Stranders also said: "I am delighted to be able to support such an exciting initiative and look forward to following the career development of the successful beneficiaries as they explore their artistry in a variety of original and innovative ways."

Career Development Bursaries support a wide range of creative opportunities and projects. The recent round of funding will support tuba player and composer, Danielle Price to undertake intensive study with celebrated tuba player and Yamaha artist Sergio Carolino. Pianist Ann-Kristin Sofroniou is to attend the Concert as Theatre programme at Banff, while composer Patrick Friel will travel to ISCM World Music Days festival "Sounds of Tomorrow" to present his work. A full list of the recent recipients can be found below.
