We are now looking for budding artists with a creative approach who are ready and keen to take their next steps into the industry.

This prestigious award is open to UK-based solo artists and bands in the first two years of their professional career or who are studying on a higher education jazz course. The panel will be looking for outstanding talent, innovation and creativity, with the winner receiving a grant of £5,000 to develop their career through a creative project.

'It is safe to say that receiving the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award was a transformational moment in my career. It allowed me to kick start a project I wouldn’t have dreamed about undertaking and the support from the HMUK team was just as valuable as the money in making turning the Engines Orchestra from a dream into a reality.’

-          Phil Meadows, Saxophonist, composer and conductor.

Speaking of the award, Claire Gevaux, Creative Director at HMUK highlighted “One of the ‘edge of cliff’ moments in an artists’ career comes at the final year of study or first year of professional life. We’re really proud to be able to offer help with this transition through the Peter Whittingham Award”.

The 2017 awardee will have the opportunity of financial help to lay the foundations of a career, develop new projects and ideas and to join the growing list of successful artists that the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award has funded for years.

The deadline for applications is Friday 3 November at 5.00pm. The applicants shortlisted for auditions will be notified by Tuesday 14 November, with auditions taking place at The Premises Studios, Hackney, on Monday 27 November.
