Sporting challenges in aid of the Musicians Benevolent Fund

Do you want to get involved with our work? Recently, several individuals have taken on sporting challenges and have raised amazing sums of money to help support musicians in need.

There are many ways you can raise money for us, whether it involves putting on a collection at a concert or doing a sponsored race. In the last month, several brave musicians have taken on huge challenges in aid of us. On June 30, cellist Matthew Lowe undertook ‘A Day in the Lakes’ Triathlon in Cumbria. This gruelling event involves a 2k swim in the Ullswater lake, a 90k cycle and a 20k run through the Lake District hills. Matthew finished the triathlon in an amazing 7 hours 19 minutes and you can still donate for his efforts here

Another fantastic result was achieved by 12 year old Jacob Nathan (pictured right), one of our youngest individuals to fundraise for us. Jacob plays many instruments and comes from a musical family, and wanted to give something back to the musicians who have taught him. In 30° heat, Jacob participated in the Human Race triathlon, consisting of a 400m swim, 10.6k cycle and 2.5k run. Jacob has managed to raise an amazing £1,228 so far, exceeding his original target of £1,000, and his JustGiving page will remain open until August.

Currently, three musicians in the pit band of West End musical ‘Wicked’ are cycling the 1000 miles from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. Andy Greenwood, Daniel Marsden and Marcus Bates set off on July 7, and are aiming to complete the cycle in 12 days on July 18. They have already raised over £5,000 and will be sharing the donations between the Musicians Benevolent Fund, The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust and Sarcoma UK. You can follow their progress or donate money on this page.

We would like to congratulate all of these individuals for their sporting achievements, and say a huge thank you for raising such incredible sums of money for us. This money will help to provide vital support for many musicians throughout the UK.
