We were thrilled to be one of the 49 charities chosen by the Radio 4 appeal which has been raising money for charities since 1927. As the outlook for musicians in the UK becomes increasing challenging with more cuts to public funding for the arts, the appeal couldn’t have come at a better time.
Lesley is an ambassador for us but also has a personal connection with us too after we helped her through a dark period in her life, so it was fitting that she gave the appeal a voice. Sharing her inspiring and emotive experience about how we helped, Lesley reached many people and showed them how they can help too.
‘It’s a holistic experience being a musician…can you imagine a life without music?’ - Lesley Garrett
To thank those who generously donated we wanted to show where your donations will go and how they will benefit musicians across the UK.
Here is how your donations will help:
- A donation of £75 could pay for a specialist physiotherapy session for a musician recovering from injury.
- A donation of £100 could pay for a trained professional to visit an isolated, elderly musician, ensuring they get much needed help, companionship and advice.
- A donation of £20 could help a music student with essentials like strings.
With every donation we are able to achieve the goal that we set out to reach every day; to offer practical, positive support to emerging, professional and retired musicians. Whether a donation is big or small every penny truly does count and we want to extend our thanks to all those who help us help musicians.
Thank you from the whole team at Help Musicians UK.
You can still listen to the appeal here and you can watch Lesley's story below.
