Born to a family of musicians, Cristian Sandrin started to play the piano at a young age with Marina Dragomirescu. He graduated the “Dinu Lipatti” Music College having worked with Cristian Dumitrescu and his own father, professor Sandu Sandrin. He is currently a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music, under the tutelage of Diana Ketler, where he is generously supported by a RAM Scholarship, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Mark James Award, the Tillett Trust, Help Musicians UK and the Imogen Cooper Musical Trust. He graduated in 2016 from the Royal Academy of Music with First Class Honours, where he held an ABRSM Scholarship and the John S. Cohen Scholarship.

Cristian Sandrin is a very active and versatile musician, having had in January 2016 his solo debut recital at the St-Martin-in-the-Fields and his first chamber music appearance at Wigmore Hall. As a Kirckman Society Artist he is expected to have a solo recital at Wigmore Hall during the 2017/2018 season. Since 2014 Cristian has been experimenting with conducting small ensembles from keyboard during Piano Festivals at RAM. Other UK engagements brought Cristian on the venues of the Queen Elisabeth Hall, St James Piccadilly, Brighton, Oxford, Chipping Campden. In Romania, Cristian Sandrin is a frequent guest artist of the Bacau National Philharmonic, Sibiu National Philharmonic, Ramnicu-Valcea National Philharmonic and Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, performing under the baton of Ovidiu Balan, Mark Csikes and Florin Totan. International engagements include performances at Salle Cortot in Paris, Salla Manuel de Falla in Madrid, Palazzo Ricci in Montepulciano, “La Fenice” Theatre in Venice, the Romanian Atheneum in Bucahrest, “Bulgaria Hall” in Sophia at the Polish National Philharmonic Hall during the 2015 International Fryderyk Chopin Competition. Last year he was awarded the Wiliam Sterndale Bennett Prize at the Royal Academy of Music for a recital of Romantic Music. His performances have been broadcasted my Radio Romania Muzical, Radio Trinitas, the Polish National Broadcaster, the NHK (the Japanes National Broadcasting Company).

In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Cristian Sandrin won consecutively a SoNoRo Scholarship providing him the opportunity to participate in chamber-music workshops organised in Paltinis, Cetate, Montepulciano and to play in chamber groups with internationally recognised artists such as Diana Ketler, Razvan Popovici, Bjork Lewis, Razvan Suma and Erich-Oskar Huetter. Mr Sandrin was invited to play in the “Interferente Concert” of SoNoRo International Chamber-Music Festival (2010 and 2011).

During the years, Christian Sandrin took part in numerous masterclasses working with internationally recognized artists such as Thomas Ades, Imogen Cooper, Angela Hewitt, Richard Goode, Jacques Rouvier, Pavel Gililov, Petras Geniusas Stephen Osborne, Pascal Devoyon, Yevgeny Sudbin, Kathryn Stott, Francoise Thinat, Natalia Troull, Naum Grubert, Jenny Zacharieva, Fulvio Turissini and Justin Oprean. Within the 7th International “San Daniele” Piano Meeting he was awarded the „Pianoforte e orchestra” Award for the best performance of a piano concerto.

Future engagements include performing from the keyboard Mozart’s Piano Concerto K595 in B flat major with the Piano Festival Chamber Ensemble during the Summer Piano Festival at RAM in June 2017.
