DELIAH is the collective name for a group of musicians and producers from Liverpool and London with a unique and distinctive fusion of sounds. Fronted by myself, Michelle Harris, we have been combining music and visuals to create powerful soundscapes with a stunning narrative.
As a collective we are focussed on creating a community around us, that being an audience and peers, working in various fields, mixing mediums. This includes working alongside filmmakers, to soundtrack their projects, sync libraries, artists, for their exhibitions, and podcasters. Through our social media, and the content that we create, we are aiming to develop a portfolio career that encompasses all of this creativity with a dedicated, invested following.
Some of our accolades include premiers by Fortitude Magazine, Getintothis and Gigslutz, as well as plays on The Only Way is Essex and Hollyoaks. This has led to creating original content, reworking covers and licensing our music to Sync Production Companies such as No Sheet Music and USA Company, DeWolfe.
The live aspect of our career has been important to us, although obviously that’s on hold right now. Some of our more reputable shows include supporting GoGo Penguin, Ady Sulieman, XamVolo and Maverick Sabre. We have also travelled the country to perform at festivals such as The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, BBC Introducing Live and are part of Liverpool International Music Festival’s LIMF Academy, as well as touring with Sofar Sounds. We did actually have a tour planned with Sofar Sounds, for us to take the Short Film that we created on the road, with us playing the soundtrack along, live. Something that we did when we put on our own launch events in London and Liverpool. This has obviously been postponed.
We have been creating ‘concept trilogies’, the first of which is called The Mind's Eye. Each track has a corresponding visual that conceptualised the lyrical message and tied it to the other singles. In 2019, as a development from that idea, we wrote and directed the previously mentioned short film, for which we also composed the soundtrack. The soundtrack is comprised of 3 songs that make up the second trilogy - ‘A Prelude To The Beginning’, which is currently being championed by BBC Introducing Merseyside and receiving tens of thousands of streams on Spotify.
The short was launched at 2 intimate listening parties at art galleries in Liverpool and London, at which we performed the soundtrack live alongside the screening. The evening closed with an audience Q&A, recorded for our weekly podcast ‘Who the F*** is DELIAH?’.
Help Musicians support will enable us to work on a portfolio of songs, voice-notes and videos created over the lockdown period. This time has allowed for a period of creative freedom, during which we created a number of tracks to showcase the various styles in which we work, so that we can use it to progress within different areas of our ‘portfolio’ career.
