Emma Torrens

Award: Ian Fleming Award

Year: 2016

Genre: Classical

Instrument/voice type: Soprano

Location: Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Born and raised in Bournemouth, Emma has been storytelling from a very early age. At 17, she decided to commit to it as a career and under the guidance of Direct Theatre and Silhouette Opera, was fortunate enough to learn in situ with amateur roles such as the UK’s first Christine in Phantom of the Opera.

Emma is about to enter her third year in training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she has already had a chance to originate a role in Bills Bitches, taken part in a pitch day for new Musical Theatre writers and, saxophone in hand, two devised actor-muso musical projects 'Notes to Self' and 'Soul Food'.

Aside from performing, Emma finds sanity in writing and cups of gingerbread green tea. You can find her anywhere there's a piano or a forest.

She looks forward to what other adventures this next year has for her and is forever grateful to the Help Musicians UK Fleming award for giving her the gift of continuing in this ridiculously wonderful industry.
