Gemma Doherty is a harpist, vocalist and composer from Derry City, best known for being one half of electronic-folk duo Saint Sister. A collaboration with Belfast singer-songwriter Morgan MacIntyre, Saint Sister has toured extensively since 2017 around Ireland, UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Their debut record ‘Shape of Silence’ was met with critical acclaim and led to accolades such as ‘Best Emerging Folk Act’ at RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards, a nomination for RTE Choice Music Prize ‘Album of the Year’, and NI Music Prize ‘Best Album’. With Saint Sister, Gemma has performed headline shows at Dublin’s National Concert Hall and Olympia Theatre, and opened stages for the likes of Keane, Hozier and Lisa Hannigan. Other notable performances include Glastonbury, SXSW, an NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and guest vocalist appearances with RTE Concert Orchestra.

Her most recent work is a collaboration with Mercury Award Nominated musician SOAK, released via Rough Trade Records. She has composed and arranged works that have been performed by Crash Ensemble, Zoe Conway, Lisa Hannigan, Kirkos Ensemble and Utopia Quartet. Gemma studied composition at Trinity College Dublin under Donnacha Dennehy and Evangelia Rigaki.
 
With support from Help Musicians, I will be able to record, mix/master and release a 3-track EP of my solo instrumental music.
