Jack is currently a Masters student of Hannah Roberts at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, having previously studied with Howard Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne. Notable solo concerto engagements have included Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante in E minor Op. 125 with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Adagio from Elgar Cello Concerto with the Hallé in the Bridgewater Hall, C.P.E. Bach’s A Major Cello Concerto with Orchestra Victoria, Dvorak Cello Concerto with Westmorland Orchestra, Fylde Sinfonia and High Peak Orchestra, and Schumann’s Cello Concerto with the U3A Hawthorn Orchestra. Other solo engagements have included a national recital tour in Australia performing in such venues as the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Recital Centre as a 2017 ANAM Artist. Jack was also recently invited to tour with Manchester Collective for performances of Schoenberg’s ‘Pierrot Lunaire’. Jack recently gave performances in Sydney and Melbourne as Principal Cellist of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Momentum Ensemble, having performed as Principal Cello with the AYO in 2014. He was a featured Young Artist at the Adelaide International Cello Festival performing a solo recital and Bach’s 6th Suite in the Bach Suites Gala Concert. He also recently gave a recital for the Patrons of Lake District Summer Music as an LDSM New Generation Artist. Competition successes include 2nd Prize at the Wallace International Cello Competition and also 2nd Prize and the Audience Award at the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition, as well as the prize for the Most Promising competitor at the Gisborne International Music Competition in New Zealand. In 2017 Jack won the prestigious Barbirolli Cello Prize. Jack has benefitted greatly from taking part in masterclasses at Kronberg Academy in Germany, IMS Prussia Cove and the London Masterclasses in the UK, and the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles, as well as the Adelaide International Cello Festival and Waikato International Cello Festival, working with such maestros as Ralph Kirshbaum, Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Torleif Thedéen, Richard Aaron, Marko Ylönen, Jian Wang, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Karine Georgian, Philippe Muller, Miklos Perenyi and Frans Helmerson. As an orchestral cellist Jack has performed as an extra with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and in side-by-side projects with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the BBC Philharmonic. He has also performed as Principal Cellist of the Australian National Academy of Music Orchestra, the RNCM Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Youth Orchestra, and the Sydney Youth Orchestra. Jack is currently supported by Help Musicians UK and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
