Josephine Sillars is a Scottish musician based in Leeds who writes piano based political pop music. Described as "protest pop" by BBC Radio Scotland and as "breathing new life into the singer-songwriter genre" (The Scotsman), she has showcased at festivals such as XpoNorth, Belladrum and Celtic Connections. In 2018 she was selected to represent the UK as part of EXCITE Music, an opportunity that saw her showcase at Live at Heart (Sweden) and the following year her single “Skeleton” was selected as BBC Radio Scotland’s Track of the Week.

Through the support of Help Musicians I will be creating a collaborative EP titled “Desperate Characters” through recorded interviews with people from around the UK. I will be writing new music based on each interview, featuring samples and soundbites for a holistic examination of what it is like to be living in the UK under the current social and political climate.
