My name is Megan Henderson and I hail from the West Highland town of Fort William in Scotland. I honed my musical skills whilst at school receiving formal training in both classical and traditional Scottish music. I went to study Classical Violin at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and gained valuable experience before graduating with Honours in 2011. I am a much in demand session musician for both recording and live performances and in 2012 was nominated for ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards. I sing and play with Scottish based fusion group ‘Salsa Celtica’, and in 2011 I joined the highly respected Scottish folk group Breabach. Breabach have been twice nominated as ‘Best Band’ in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards as well as winning ‘Folk Group of the Year 2012’ and ‘Best Live Act 2013’ at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards. I have toured extensively with Breabach and have had the privilege to share our music, language and culture across the world from Central Park, NY, Woodford Folk Festival in Australia, WOMAD New Zealand and the Sydney Opera House. I regulaly tour across Europe and North America as well as performing at esteemed events on home soil such as the Hebridean Celtic Festival and Celtic Connections. Most recently I have played violin and piano with Duncan Chisholm on his 2016 tour dates. I enjoying being part of musical collaborations and during the commonwealth games i was part of 'Away with the Birds/Air falbh leis na h-eòin, written for a female vocal ensemble. This project reinterpreted archival material, fragmenting and re-weaving extracts of Gaelic songs into an extended soundscape.
