A lifeline of support for those who have spent a lifetime in music
You never really stop being a musician — but reaching retirement age can often be the most challenging time in a musician’s life.
It’s impossible to imagine a world without the joy and comfort that musicians provide. But for those who pursue a life in music, reaching retirement age can often be fraught with unexpected challenges. As they reach this new chapter, it’s our turn to provide for them.
Mike’s Story: A lifeline of support after a lifetime in music
For Mike, a lifelong musician who once played the circuit of New Orleans, the steady presence of Help Musicians has been invaluable.
Giving musicians the support they need later life
We support around 300 musicians of retirement age every year in the following ways:
- We support those with mobility issues, hearing loss, and other health issues related to their life in music.
- We make 300 home visits every year to musicians of retirement age. This vital social connection is aimed at reducing isolation, whilst also ensuring that we’re doing all we can to meet their needs.
- Our case workers provide signposting and guidance to support their physical health and wider wellbeing.
- We provide financial support to help towards essential living costs.
How you can make a difference
None of this would be possible without donations, and we are proud to say our 100% pledge means that every pound donated by our supporters goes entirely towards helping musicians.
Alongside our support for musicians in retirement, our range of wellbeing services provide a vital safety net for all working musicians, and our career development services enable musicians to take up crucial opportunities that enable them to build sustainable careers.
