Molly — “It’s given me a lot more confidence in what I do”
Through multiple avenues of support, we’ve helped Molly evolve as an artist.
With a background in musical theatre and years of songwriting since her teens, Molly’s journey as a musician became more serious after university.
Initially performing solo, music has long served as a personal outlet for Molly, shaped by emotion and storytelling.
Through Help Musicians, Molly first joined the Co-Pilot mentoring scheme, working with music professional Laura Musgrave, who continues to support her beyond the programme.
Co-Pilot pairs emerging musicians with industry professionals who support them through 6 months of 1 – 1 mentoring, including expert practitioner webinars and business skills workshops. The scheme helps musicians engage with areas of the industry that they are likely to be less familiar with, giving them a range of tools to navigate the more complex parts of a career in music.
“Laura still sends me opportunities on Instagram. She gets how much little things like engagement on posts matter – we support each other like that.”
But the transformative moment came when she was accepted onto the songwriting retreat – a surprise that moved her to tears after a long journey back from France.
Led by Chris Difford – co-founder of iconic British band Squeeze, Help Musicians Ambassador and Principal Ambassador for Music Minds Matter – the retreat offers a rare opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists to focus solely on their craft.
The retreat not only gave Molly time and financial freedom to focus creatively but also helped her unlearn the idea that songwriting must come from personal emotional hardship.
Instead, she found new value in collaborative writing, shared inspiration, and a deepened confidence in her artistic future.
“The financial relief meant I didn’t have to worry about taking time off or how I’d pay for it – that was huge.”
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Help Musicians covers the cost of this retreat for musicians taking part. Our commitment to artist development goes far beyond one-off support – we exist to nurture sustainable careers, creative confidence and peer networks that last long into the future.
Molly says that all together, the support she’s received has “given me a lot more confidence in what I do and has definitely made a future in the industry seem more possible.”
