It took sometime to discover my love of jazz, maybe due to the cultural monotony of rural Shropshire and Cornwall where I was schooled up to GCSE level. It wasn’t until studying A-level Music at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College that I become more switched on to Jazz. This was due to the inspiring teachings of American Trumpet player David Place. From there I decided to further my study with London Saxophone veteran Dave O’Higgins, taking the form of a three year BMus Degree at LCCM.While in London I had the opportunity to play with The Grand Union Youth Orchestra: taking part in rehearsals, masterclasses and performances such as Undream’d Shores at Hackney Empire in 2014.
Other valuable experiences I had were: NYJO 2 (MD Sebastiaan De Krom), Kinitica Bloco summer school 2015 culminating in a performance in the Clore ballroom Southbank, NYJO London led by Phil Meadows (performing a set at the Vortex Jazz club) and Jewish music institute’s klezmer summer school at Soas.
As part of my last year at LCCM, I arranged for NYJO 1 and then rehearsed it with the full band. After Graduating from LCCM with a first class honours in 2017 I worked Professionally, spending the first half of 2018 performing on P&O Cruises. During this period I played with Trumpeter Georgina Jackson, Pianist Mac Frampton, Clarinetist Kenny Martin and many others.
Since commencing my studies postgraduate studies, I took part in the RWCMD Bigband tour of wales, jazz showcase at London jazz festival and have been performing on the Cardiff scene, with original sets played at Amser Jazz Sessions and The Flute and Tankard.
