Lea Shaw is an award-winning Mezzo-soprano from the Rocky Mountains of Denver, Colorado. She is studying her Masters of Opera at the iAlexander Gibson Opera Studio at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, having received both her Bachelor of Music (1st class honours) and Masters of Music at the RCS
She is a sought-after soloist in concert and oratorio, having performed diverse repertoire worldwide with conductors such as Marin Alsop, John Butt, and Sir Andrew Davies. Operatic roles include: Dritte Magd (Electra, EPOG 2017), Page and Slave (Salome, EPOG 2018), cover Mrs. Jones (Street Scene, 2018), Second Witch and cover Dido (Dido And Aeneas, 2019). As part of the AGOS she has performed the roles Bianca (The Rape Of Lucretia), Polly Peachum (Die Dreigroschenoper), and Mère Jéanne (Les Dialogues des Carmélites). This upcoming year she is performing the roles of Sesto (Guilio Cesare), The Minskwoman (Flight), and the title role of L’Enfant in L’Enfant et Les Sortileges.
In her personal pursuits, Lea is a passionate collaborator, improviser, and contemporary music specialist. She performed Schoenberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” in 2018 to great acclaim, and gave a groundbreaking performance of Peter Maxwell Davies’ “The Medium” in the summer of 2019. She regularly collaborates with living composers and artists.
She is generously supported by the RCS Trust and is the recipient of a Sybil Tutton Opera Award to enable her final year of study.
