Having started cello lessons at an early age, Tom spent 5 years studying at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh, where he won string, composition and chamber music prizes. He joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2012 before completing an Honours degree in Music at Goldsmiths, University of London, performing concertos by Haydn and Shostakovich with the orchestra whilst there, as well as performing at festivals throughout the UK and in Norway, Switzerland, Germany and Spain. Tom is currently studying for his Masters in performance as a scholar at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, under the tutelage of Matthew Sharp. A proud native of Sheffield, he has a long association with Sheffield Music Academy as both a student and teacher. Tom is supported by Help Musicians UK, the Sheffield Church Burgesses Trust, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Craxton Memorial Award.
