Business Skills: Understanding artist management with Paul Ablett
This webinar will explore common myths held by new artists about managers and what they are really looking for.
Join us as Paul Ablett discusses topics like a manager’s role in the relationship, boundaries, being professional and a self reflection technique, along with questions you might expect to ask a prospective manager.
Paul, a former musician, has been actively involved in the Music Industry and Artist Management for over thirty years, working with signed Platinum and indie artists and producers. For a period in between in the early 90’s, he also worked as a respected freelance music journalist, covering House, Hip Hop and Reggae Dancehall for a national newspaper and various magazines. Paul is still involved in management but focuses more on soundtrack writers. He also works as a mentor/life coach in the creative industries, and volunteers on the mentoring scheme for Help Musicians, Co-Pilot. He is a senior Music Business lecturer at BIMM London.
The aim of this session is to give you a holistic view of this unique working relationship within the Music Industry. The format of this session will be a presentation led by Paul, followed by a guided Q&A where you will be able to ask Paul specific questions.
