Mental Health in Music: Leading Positive Change
This event is now at capacity; please join the waiting list if you would like to be alerted if a space becomes available.
We all believe in the power of music and the value it brings to wider society. But those who work in music suffer more than most with their mental health, given the challenges that a career in the music industry can bring. At Help Musicians we see the positive impact when those in the industry work together to make a difference, and we know there is even more we can do collaboratively to improve mental health right across the music ecosystem.
As such, we invite you to a private event at the Roundhouse on 9 October, the eve of World Mental Health Day. “Mental Health in music – leading positive change” will continue the conversation we started at last year’s event at Abbey Road Studios. Hosted by Nemone, the session will explore how we’re supporting and promoting good mental health collaboratively as an industry and, we’ll be bringing together a room of peers to hear from leaders, mental health experts, artists and one another about how we move forward in this important area. We really hope you will join us.
Over the past two years, Music Minds Matter, Help Musicians’ sister charity, offering a broad range of mental health support to anyone working in the music industry has seen a 200% increase in calls to its support line alone. As a result, we’ve been evolving the types of support available through Music Minds Matter, but we know there is more that can be done. Working together, the music industry can become a leader in caring for the mental wellbeing of its people.
Thank you to the Roundhouse for partnering with us for this event.
Speakers
This year we’re thrilled to be joined by two performers from the forefront of electronic music, I. Jordan and Sherelle. In conversation with host Nemone, they will discuss their own experiences of for maintaining strong mental health while on tour, spotting early warning signs and how to find support while on the road.
Deciding to release their own original music in 2019 after a decade of holding down DJ residencies and promoting DIY parties, I. Jordan’s ever-evolving and expertly produced releases alongside formidable DJ sets around the world have placed them firmly at the forefront of dance music.
London-born DJ Sherelle is one of dance music’s hardest working performers. Her residency on BBC Radio 1 has seen her champion cutting-edge dance music to a mainstream audience, while her DJ sets, radio shows and record label give a platform to both scene elders and new talent.
Nemone is a DJ and broadcaster, whose extensive experience of the music industry is complemented by a deep understanding of the mental health situation in the UK through her ongoing practice as a psychotherapist.
