Anthony Poon is currently studying for his Bachelor of Music Degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London, majoring in violin with Jack Liebeck with a scholarship. He has also been offered a place to study his Master of Art Degree at Royal Academy of Music with a scholarship beginning in September 2019.
 
Anthony Poon was born in Hong Kong in 1996. He started violin lessons at the age of 7 and at the age of 9 Handel Lam took over his musical development. Anthony was rewarded Associate of Trinity College of London (ATCL) in 2010. In 2010 Anthony moved to England to study with Alex Laing in Uppingham School. During his time in Uppingham, he achieved a distinction at the Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) diploma violin recital examination in 2011. Anthony also led the School Symphony Orchestra and the Senior String Ensemble for several years. In 2013, he was awarded the Champions' prize at the Pro Corda Chamber Music Festival.
 
As a soloist, he performed the 1st movement of Lalo’s ‘‘Symphonie Espagnole’’ with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for a Charity concert in march 2017. In the same year. In June 2019 Anthony was invited as a soloist to perform Brahms Violin Concerto with the Stamford Chamber Orchestra. In 2015, he had the privilege to play Bach double violin concerto with Alex Laing at Lichfield Cathedral with the Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra. He has performed concertos by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Brahms in the past with the Uppingham School Symphony Orchestra. Anthony has participated in masterclasses with world renowned violinists such as Menahem Pressler, Philippe Graffin, Ning Feng and Gyorgy Pauk.
 
During his time at the academy, his Academy orchestral projects have included front desk roles in events ranging from Opera and Symphony Orchestra to London Jazz Festival. He was invited to perform in the opening concert of Suoni Dal Golfo festival in the summer of 2017. In the summer of 2018 Anthony was invited to perform in the sextet in the production of Strauss Capriccio at Garsington Opera. In the same year the Kirkman Quartet which Anthony plays in was awarded the St Peter’s Fellowship at St Eaton Square to perform a series of concert at St Peter’s Church in London and is invited to be the Residence Quartet in Wye Valley Music Festival in March. Anthony also plays in the Azura Piano Quintet which was awarded 2nd Prize in the Harold Craxton Prize at Academy. The Azura Piano Quintet has been invited to perform as part of the Academy Piano Festival in July. Anthony is the leader of East London Symphony Orchestra and Wyatt Sinfonia, orchestras made up of conservatoire and university students. He was also a member of the National Youth orchestra of Great Britain 2014. Anthony is very grateful to Help Musicians UK for supporting his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music.
