Holly Marie Bingham BMus (hons) DipABRSM is a Lancashire born Mezzo-soprano. Her musical studies began in 2001 at Chetham’s School of Music studying flute, piano and voice, and in 2009 moved to London to start her undergraduate degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama with full tuition scholarship studying with Susan Waters. After her first year, Holly Marie was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition for Young Singers 2010.

Holly Marie completed her degree with First Class Honours and continued onto GSMD’s MMus programme with kind sponsorship from The Henry Osborne Award of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, City of London, The Guildhall Trust, and Help Musicians UK (Postgraduate Award). She was also the proud recipient of the Chetham’s School of Music Alumni Award The Neil Vint Award 2013, The Tracey Chadwell Award 2013 for her work in contemporary music.

Opera and Theatre credits include: Irene, Theodora (Benslow Baroque Opera); Dido, Dido & Aeneas (GSMD opera scenes, dir., Dinah Stabb); Rose and Radio Girl, A Soldier And A Maker (Iain Burnside, broadcast for Radio 3 InTune); Chorus in The Adventures of Pinocchio (Jonathan Dove, GSMD); Hermia, Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten); Donna Elvira, Don Giovanni (Mozart); Alcina, Alcina (Handel); Gretel, Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck) (all GSMD Opera Scenes), Poppea and Virtù, L’incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi, GSMD), Ethel Gurney and Enid in the premiere of Iain Burnside’s ASAAM, (Barbican Pit Theatre and Cheltenham Arts Festival 2012) and cover of Esmeralda and Chorus member in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride for British Youth Opera (Peacock Theatre, Summer 2012).

As a keen recitalist, Holly Marie gives regular performances recitals and has performed in venues such as: The Purcell Room (as part of The Rest is Noise Festival for The Southbank Centre, December ’13), LSO St Luke’s, Oxford Holywell Music Room (as part of the Oxford Lieder Festival 2012), Lanercost Priory, Manchester Cathedral, St John’s church Waterloo, St. Alfege Church Greenwich, Baronial Hall (Chetham’s), The Worshipful Company of Carpenter’s Hall (City of London), St Mary-le-Bow Church, St Vedast Alias Foster (City of London Festival), St Luke’s Church (Sevenoaks), St Olave’s Church, and St Botolp-without Bishopsgate Hall. Holly Marie has had the privilege of working with internationally acclaimed musicians including: Edith Wiens, Ben Luxon, Graham Johnson, Eugene Asti, Iain Burnside, Roger Vignoles, Simon Lepper, Laura Sarti, Sarah Walker, Jane Manning, Richard Jackson, Emanuele Moris, Lada Valesova and Rudolf Piernay.

Most recently, Holly Marie has performed the semi-chorus from Berlioz’s ‘Romeo and Juliette’ with the LSO and Valery Gergiev, Barbican Hall and, Salle Pleyel, Paris; The West Wind in the premier of James Garner’s new opera East o’ the Sun, West o’ the Moon performed in the Studio Theatre, Milton Court and Wolf’s four Mignon Lieder for a masterclass with Stephen Loges at Wigmore Hall and in concert at GSMD dir., Eugene Asti. She is currently preparing Brahms’ Liebeslieder op. 52, Schumann’s Liederkreis op. 39 and a week of master classes on German Lied with Peter Schreier in Liepzig in September.
