Kayla Painter is a composer, producer and sound design artist. If you caught her impressive immersive audio visual show at Simple Things Festival or her debut at Glastonbury (Glade Stage) you will no doubt have witnessed her unusual array of audio samples adopting field recordings as an intrinsic part of her live performance and recorded works.

2018 Saw Kayla’s most prolific year yet, where she released two singles ( In the Witch Elm , Keep Under Wraps ), an EP ( Cannibals at Sea ), and played a variety of shows, establishing herself as a key Audio Visual performer in the UK. In the Witch Elm was created with samples drawn from the tapes of electronic pioneer Delia Derbyshire. This track was premiered by Mary-Anne Hobbs and supported by Crack magazine, who also named her as an artist to watch. Following her spring/summer live dates she released a second single Keep Under Wraps which saw support from Gilles Peterson, Brownswood and was selected for Fresh Finds: Basement Spotify playlist. Kayla’s release Cannibals at Sea then followed with a six date UK tour. This EP was dubbed ‘Best Electronic’ on bandcamp in October, was featured on The Quietus, and saw support from many key tastemakers and funding bodies. The five track EP has gathered momentum, giving Kayla a chance to do a one off show for NTS, and to perform one of her tracks in Brownswood’s infamous ‘Basement sessions’ which subsequently got picked up for premier by Stamp the Wax.

Live, Kayla has also played Bristol’s former IMAX cinema as part of a Simple Things show, her AV work has gathered strong support in Cardiff, Manchester and now London. She continues to bring exciting new soundscapes and challenging ideas forward through her sound work and new immersive show. 2019 began with some video releases including a documentary about the Cannibals at Sea EP, and continued with double-a side single releases being supported by 6Music DJs.
Additionally, announcements for Bluedot Festival, The Great Escape Festival, We Out Here festival, and Stendhal Festival (Northern Ireland), 2019 is set to be another year full of releases and unique live performances.
