London-based Rookes is known for her charismatic and commanding stage presence, and her fearless exploration of queer-female identity with influences from KD Lang’s androgynous prowess, and Kimbra for her powerful vocal style, as well as experimental, technological approach.
Rookes two EP releases and her frank, fiercely intelligent style of delivery have have garnered her a loyal fanbase across the UK and beyond. She was recently described as a "Queer Pop Icon" by Hey Queer London, is the 2020 winner of the MPG Production Scholarship and was named by Pro Sound News Europe as one of the most exciting up-and-coming producers of 2020.
She is currently cooking up her first album, live and online, via her premier YouTube series #popnotpop, which will be delivered in 2021, thanks to the Do It Differently fund. In the meantime, she has co-founded a thriving studio-talent network for women and non-binary folx based in the UK and EU called 2% Rising.
Help Musicians have now provided £3000 towards the completion of my debut LP, #popnotpop. This will significantly help towards covering costs the mixing, mastering and two socially distanced music video shoots as a part of an online PR campaign.
