We've been helping musicians at the start of their careers since our charity was founded back in 1921, and we've had a dedicated talent development programme since the early 1980s.
Intensive postgraduate study is vital if the next generation of musicians are to achieve their potential, but the costs are astronomical. That’s why we help more than 100 musicians every year with grants at crucial stages in their development. This includes grants towards the cost of postgraduate study at conservatoires and performing colleges – covering classical music performance, opera, jazz and musical theatre. Previous winners of these awards include trumpeter Alison Balsom and percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie. Music colleges nominate students with exceptional talent who are also in financial need. These students are then heard by panels of expert professional musicians at auditions. Those who impress the most are offered grants for the following academic year.
